What I've found is if I don't include a little dairy, my success rate decreases drastically. And, I was still getting good results.

Unlike you, I was more a mixed burner tending towards sugar burner, so that's probably a huge reason why the nixing of the complex carbs has made me feel much better and the opposite for you.

I have tried to add bad some complex carbs, but I don't feel THAT great - not quite awful now, but not good either.

So, what I'm gathering is I don't have to be 100% strict Paleo, and I can have a little complex carbs, but probably less frequent than you and less in amount. I'm finding that I am a lot more tired & lethargic putting these carbs into my system then when I go 100% complex carb free.

And, as our bodies heal and change, what we may be now and a year from now is different. We need to pay attention to our bodies and see what works for us. If we keep getting good results with what we're doing, then probably making too drastic of changes would not be good.

It's when we aren't getting good results that we probably need to make other changes.

I like your blog, Gina!

Hugs,
DorisDorishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04753953159128835433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2910350370130292002.post-91040283906665810892012-06-18T18:26:24.402-07:002012-06-18T18:26:24.402-07:00Doris,
I agree that making any rash changes in a d...Doris,
I agree that making any rash changes in a diet can be bothersome to one's system. I do think that wheat is a slight problem for me and so I stay away from wheat as much as I can and also in doing this, I really try to eat a gluten free diet. Since I am in nutrition and physiology and exercise physiology classes I know that our body really needs carbohydrates for energy. (yes, ketosis will cause your liver to convert the food you eat to a source that can be used as carb energy) I found for me when I was on a no grain diet I felt more tired and had a hard time getting through my workouts. I wasn't craving it, but every person I know who cuts the carbs and then goes back to eating them gains back their weight (it happened to me a little as well). The reason for that is that since your body uses carbs for energy, it will try and hold on to them and store any excess since it doesn't know when it will get more, causing a weight gain. It makes sense for me too because Scott had tested us and i was a "muscle burner" and needed the carbs. So I eat quinoa, brown rice, and other healthy carbs in moderation. I also am sure to add these carbs to my meal if i am not having meat ans having legumes as this is the only way for our body to get a complete protein in absence of the meat. I really like coconut oil too, so I am just going to give this diet 1 week to see how I feel. I think the key to any diet is common sense and eating cleanly with portion control. I have always stayed away from soy as well (the occassional soybean would be in my diet, bt no tofu, etc.). I am going to have a little bit of it to see if it will help with my dreadful hot flashes and bed sweats. If what you are doing is working for you, then I would stick with it. I don't think I am fully committed to any one line of thinking/eating such as paleo , etc. I just love the idea of eating healthy, keeping the sugars low, and the carbs natural and unrefined. Thanks so much for commenting, I always appreciate your insight, and we have a lot of similarities on our thinking! It is an interesting concept, it just shocks me that I may have been eating most of the wrong foods all along, since most of what i was eating was on the "food to avoid" list. I do think that wheat bothers me if I have too much, but the idea of not havng spicy foods is hard to get used too. I also believe that the foods listed are guidelines because everyone is still different. A lady in our nutrition class is a type B blood type and she is allergic to most of the foods that she has been told she should eat for her bloodtype. But I was glad to do the report for the class. I had never heard of the diet before. Thanks again for your comment.
GinaGinahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17999893016360570002noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2910350370130292002.post-70957119232518860672012-06-18T14:00:17.332-07:002012-06-18T14:00:17.332-07:00Hi Gina,

I'm one of those 2.

Wow, to be a vegetarian . . . sorry, that's just NOT going to happen. And, they are encouraging eating soy? I personally know eating most soy makes me sick.

With better protein intake through meats, I'm noticing positive changes in my nails, so I think I'm doing something right.

So, if the only real protein source is soy, I'm screwed. We eat a lot of eggs. I find it hard to believe that coconut oil would be bad. It's helped me with my sugar issues.

I fidn when I do eat those grains, cereals and pastas, THAT causes weight gain big time. So, I think for me, if I'm actually an A-, this diet would not go well for me.

If what was working for you before, stick with that. I thought cutting out grains & starches would be a bear, but I it wasn't. If I did this diet, I would totally fail because the things I'm finding healthy for my body according to your list are unhealthy for me.

ARgggh . . . .
Oh well,
~DorisDorishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04753953159128835433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2910350370130292002.post-64745770084946019072012-06-18T11:49:06.478-07:002012-06-18T11:49:06.478-07:00Nice to see a nutrition class talking about this....Nice to see a nutrition class talking about this. It is a Paleo based diet where you est mostly protein and vegetables and healthy fats and do not eat grains, legumes, or very much fruit. This diet was designed to be followed for about 2 weeks to jump start your healthy eating plan eith the idea of transitioning to Jorge's original belly fat cure diet. I do still have some grains from time to time, but I have found that gluten tends to bother me a little bit so I try not to eat much of that. I happen to love oatmeal, quinoa, brown rice, etc. The key is to enjoy what you eat and eat cleanly. You should never feel deprived or punished! ♥Ginahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17999893016360570002noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2910350370130292002.post-85053460854648241752012-04-23T09:52:05.357-07:002012-04-23T09:52:05.357-07:00Gina, I understand about "white stuff", ...Gina, I understand about "white stuff", but why no grains? She is a food blogger and started low carb in January and she has some amazing recipes. Her link is in my blog under my Recipe Sites tab or something like that.

She has amazing photos and the food is really good. I've made some of her stuff. She is creative (like you) and inventive.

You can also make little muffins from these, couldn't you, and pop in the oven? I'm not even hungry and just reading your simple recipe makes me salivate!

I've now lost 18 lbs and almost into a size 12 (from a size 16 8.5 weeks ago). My bodyfat is about 25% now (from 33%). This low carb thing is easier with taking out the grains & starches than when I still had them in. Today I'm at 199.2. Yay that I'm finally below 200.

How is your bodyfat? Weight? You're into Week 6? I'm really loving this way of eating and not missing the grains & starches. Are you having any cravings? I'm not, at least not for anything grainy or starchy.

This way of eating, even when I'm some super lazy, has been easy. I'm learning how to love chocolate now. heehee . . . Instead of a baking sheet, I used a pizza stone.

I had leftover rotisserie chicken, fresh basil and leftover walnut pesto (from Jorge's Fast Track book) and some prosciutto. I topped it with shredded cheddar as I was too lazy to grate the mozzarella. It turned out fantastic.

It seems we are thinking along the same lines. He gives guidlines on what to eat, etc, and it has a lot of the before and after stories of clients like his second book does. I got the combo pack of belly fat cure that came with the original book & the sugar carb counter. I do like the sugar/carb counter as you can look up things easily (and it is compact in size so you can put it in your purse), but I find I still need to go online and look things up when I am making my own recipes to figure it all out.

I am almost afraid to go back to the carbs. I haven't had any sweets including the dark chocolate since I strated on Sunday. So far so good. I don't crave things, just miss having them is all, lol. I LOVE food ☺

I am so happy you are doing well on this program. I was worried as I went to look up reviews and read so many bad things about Jorge, it scared me, but then I figured that most people who post reviews are usually people who are not satisfied so I took it with a grain of salt.

GinaGinahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17999893016360570002noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2910350370130292002.post-1772987100043805992012-02-23T11:27:20.388-08:002012-02-23T11:27:20.388-08:00I'm upset that I'm still sick. 9 days now...I'm upset that I'm still sick. 9 days now and this horrible cough. Ugggh. I hope you're well by now, too.

I love coconut, too. I have a site (Tropical Traditions) in my blog. LOVE their stuff and you can order online. I've been using them for years, including for skincare stuff. If you do choose to order from them, which they have great products, and you've never ordered from them, click on one of my Tropical Traditions links and that will allow me to refer you so I can get a $25 gift certificate to use on their site.

If you find you love their stuff, too, you can do similar to me when you refer someone from your site. They have deals it seems like once a week or every other week where there is free shipping, so I wait on those days, and wait for my items to usually go on sale before buying. Saves me a lot.

I was hoping that when I get to 15% bodyfat and don't want to go lower, that I would gradually add back limited amounts of complex carbs and the occasional sugar.

The cool thing about the Fast Track is that I have ZERO cravings, and I don't feel like I ever need a cheat day as the foods I'm eating taste so good and there is enough variety. Like when I eat bacon, I almost feel like that's a treat and a cheat meal in itself - like indulging.

Sometimes I use turkey bacon, other times beef, or pork, but usually with no nitrites. Gets kinda pricey, though.

The sugar wasn't too hard to cut and I thought it would be for the grains/starches, but it wasn't.

I, too, am glad we came together in AA and are doing Jorge's thing. I really hope this will help bring your hormones a bit more less whacky, but you may need some additional progesterone from like an alternative healthcare practitioner to balance that out more.

Do you find that having a little cacao helping? I'm not a chocolate lover, but I do find that the 85% or higher cacao really hits the spot.

For Jorge's Skinny muffins, you could try 2/3 tspn cream of tartar and 1/3 tspn baking soda in lieu of the baking powder to give it the rise. Mix well, though.

After Scott's 2-Week Sugar Challenge, I'm going to add some blueberries and maybe chocolate to my muffins.

I thought that when my kids have parties at school, I can make these muffins for my kids with different fruit (bananas, apples, raspberries, blueberries, mango), maybe add some vanilla extract, and do a whipped cream cheese frosting with a little xylitol (or stevia) lemon zest. It'll give them the sweet taste with no grains, no starch, good nutrition. Another frosting could be an egg white (meringue) frosting.Dorishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04753953159128835433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2910350370130292002.post-39934689501732466362012-02-23T11:13:58.527-08:002012-02-23T11:13:58.527-08:00Yay for you!!! It'll be interesting to see that when you do add those things back in, what will happen to cravings.

As you go through the 2 weeks, if you have no cravings and then you add back a little complex carbs and find you do get cravings, what do you think you will do?

I haven't read his first BFC book, or if I did, I didn't like the layout or something and never finished.Dorishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04753953159128835433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2910350370130292002.post-15559214580593382362012-02-23T09:44:45.554-08:002012-02-23T09:44:45.554-08:00Hey Doris, Sorry to hear you have been sick. All day I felt dizzy and nauseous from it and then 2 days later I had an eye infection, ehich then moved into my left eye on Sunday night. Had to stay home from school so I wouldn't infect anyone. I LOVE cocnut anything so I will go grab the recipe from your site, Sounds yummy! I am also hooked on Jorge's Skinny Muffins made from flax. I add 86% cacao pieces to it to add a nice sweetness to it. I find the baking powder to be a bit salty if it doesnt mix in properly, but I love those muffins. I am not ating them for 2 weeks though while I do the fast track and see where I go from there. I was glad to find this program and even happier to find that YOU were doing it as well. I swear , Doris, we have so much in common. I am so glad we came together in Agless Abs. I agree that cutting the sugar is probably the most important step for me. My hormones are so out of whack and I think this will help. Also, I have found that now that I hve given up wheat products (pretty much) that when I do eat it I get bloating and gain weight quickly so I guess over the years I have become a bit intolerant to it. Glad we are doing this!Ginahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17999893016360570002noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2910350370130292002.post-40962358806133637882012-02-23T09:37:48.699-08:002012-02-23T09:37:48.699-08:00Hey Doris, Thanks so much. I do feel better and I have lost almost 6 lbs in 4 days so I am really happy. I am not too concerned about the fat in Jorge's plan but I do want to be sure that I don't eat anything I think would be unhealthy for me. I am sticking to no grains and minimal sugar for the first 2 weeks, then I plan to add back some of the healthy carbs. I am already seeing ways to tweak some of Jorge's recips from his first belly fat cure book, so I can't wait.Ginahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17999893016360570002noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2910350370130292002.post-67775059446725947032012-02-22T08:07:30.785-08:002012-02-22T08:07:30.785-08:00Hi Again Gina,

I didn't count anything during Jorge's Fast Track and the only thing I'm counting now is sugar because of Scott's 2-Week Challenge. Wow, that's low in calories.

I had so much energy during those 2 weeks and even now for still being sick, I still have more energy than when I was eating a lot more sugar.

How are your cravings? Do you have any? I'm so proud of you. Keep up the good work.

I hate counting all that stuff, so I'm not. I can't wait until I'm totally well so then I feel hungrier to eat more and doing those tough HIIT Spartacus workouts (I know you can do these, too). They are fun.

Grins,
DorisDorishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04753953159128835433noreply@blogger.com
